My hunting buddy Pat and I took one of our X-bred gyps and bred to Barry Potts Amos dog, Barry is a sure enough nice guy, we kept 3 of them for ourselves and have 6 males and 2 females left they are 8 weeks old and good looking pups. The only thing I can tell you is the 3 we have will get hunted and will let you know next spring how they are turning out. Right now they are just pestering the heck out of squirrels and barn cats. LOL

Sounds good Chuck. Barry is a real nice guy for sure. His dog (Amos) is out of Prettyboy and my brother's Izzy female. I have heard he is a coon dog. I know he is from an above average cross. It will be interesting to see how they turn out being from a crossbred female. They should be some game catchers. How is your female crossed up?

They will have a little bit of everything in them. I bet they make good ones. There is a guy in North Carolina that has a couple mixed up females like that. He says they are top bear dogs. He wants to breed one to Hank and one to Prettyboy to get hunting dogs. Hope you good luck with yours.

Yeah Bruce, I remember,you and Marvin. I will tell Allen you asked about him. I have pretty boy poacher now. He is out of the old poacher dog. That WAS a few years back. I think we were hunting one of Allen's grand nt dogs then. I brought old poacher dog up to breed a female you all brought for Wayde Mann, best I remember? You all kept him at your campsite for me while we hunted Allen's dog. It is good hearing from you and maybe we will see you all again up there sometime. We always walked around and looked for you and Marvin to see if you all came. I still appreciate you all watching after my old dog.

Larry Shatley texted over the weekend and said they finished Big Bo to Nite Ch Friday night. He is off Prettyboy/Abby cross. I sold 2 year old Bo to Larry a couple months back. Since then, he has won 2nd, 4th, 4th place Madison NC RQE, and a 1st in UKC. Bo won 4 out of 6 cast in UKC and Qualified for UKC world hunt. He also won $108 in PKC to qualify for Spring Super Stakes and PKC World Hunt. I appreciate Larry giving him the opportunity.

Ronnie, There are a few folks use them for bobcats. A guy in Wyoming has one he has caught several bobcat with. These dogs give plenty of mouth on track and are not babblers or loose mouth. One thing they will do is when they are running a hard running coon they will shut their mouth and run silent some to get closer to the coon and put it up quicker. They catch their fair share of coon on the ground also. I think the guy's dog in Wyoming has caught a bobcat on the ground. They get this trait from my brothers old Gr nt Tennessee Buckshot dog and my old Nt Ch Victor dog. They would run coon like this. If dogs started staying close to them, they would also shut their mouth and run silent until they got way ahead of other dogs and then start opening everybreath again, cold track or hot tracks. This has got passed down to the dogs we have now, as they are all decendants of these two dogs. I don't bobcat hunt but I believe these traits would help catch more cats. Then I may be wrong? Hope this answers your question.

Larry texted me this morning and said they finished Bo out to Gr Nt Ch last night.

I raised Bo from a pup and sold him to Larry back in January of this year. Since then Bo has become UKC Gr Nt Ch, Show Ch, PKC Nt Ch, PKC Plott breed leader, Qualified PKC Super Stakes, Qualified PKC World Hunt, Qualified PKC National Championship, Qualified UKC World Hunt.


Larry said Bo won 16 of 24 cast in UKC-PKC hunts to best of his recollection.


Bo did this in approximately 22 weeks in competition as a 2 year old. He will be 3 in September.

Larry put a lot more hard coon hunting on him during the week to top him out also.

I appreciate Larry pushing him in the hunts and wish him best of luck with the dog.


Bo was born with the mentality to handle the competition hunts without getting his cage rattled. He can compete with and win his share hunting against the top Walker dogs and other breeds.
